Pet Euthanasia

Pets aren’t our whole lives, but they make our lives whole.

At YVC, we recognize the immense difficulty faced by pet owners when contemplating the end-of-life care for their beloved animals. It's our commitment to provide empathetic support, professional guidance, and thoughtful care throughout this process. We view euthanasia not just as a medical procedure, but as a final act of love and mercy for a suffering pet, and we tailor our approach to honor the unique needs of each family and their cherished companions.

  • At-Home Euthanasia

There is no replacement for the comfort and familiarity that home provides, YVC commits to doing our best to provide the option to perform housecalls for euthanasia because this option allows your pet to spend their final moments in the environment where they feel most secure and loved, surrounded by familiar sights, sounds, and smells. Our veterinary team brings the same level of care and respect to your home, ensuring the process is as peaceful as possible for both you and your pet.

While we strive to accommodate the unique needs of every family, it’s important to note that housecall services are currently available only for dogs and cats. If this is a service you are interested, please contact our office and we will help coordinate this.

  • In-Hospital Euthanasia

At YVC, we offer compassionate in-hospital euthanasia services tailored to meet the needs of pets and their families during this difficult time. Understanding the importance of a peaceful and dignified farewell, we stive to provide a serene environment for pets to be comfortably surrounded by their loved ones.

For dogs and cats, we welcome owners to be present, offering them the chance to say goodbye in a private and supportive setting. Our facilities are equipped with specialized equipment to ensure a gentle and stress-free experience for exotic pets, although we must perform these procedures in our treatment area, where owners cannot be present due to safety and procedural requirements.

Regardless of the situation, our dedicated team is committed to providing a caring and respectful process, ensuring a peaceful transition for your beloved pet.

  • The Process

For dogs and cats, the euthanasia process begins with an anesthesia injection to ensure the pet is fully anesthetized and free of any discomfort. The subsequent administration of the euthanasia solution is typically quick and peaceful.

For exotic pets, inhaled anesthetics are used to provide a similarly serene transition. Throughout this process, our team is present to offer comfort and support, ensuring a peaceful passage.

  • Aftercare Options

We offer private and communal creations. For private cremations, pets are cremated individually so that the ashes can be returned. For communal cremations, pets are cremated with other pets, and the ashes are not returned.

Some clients choose to bury their pets at home. If your family needs time to prepare the site, we can hold the pet’s remains at YVC until the site is ready.

For Cremations, we have been working with the same cremation service for decades; they are dependable and completely trustworthy.

  • Memorial Options

Understanding the importance of memorializing your pet, we offer several memorial options. Private cremations traditionally come with a cedar urn, and a memorial clay paw print is made for each cremation.

There are also additional urn options, ink paw and nose prints, as well as custom charms and outdoor river rock memorials.
