Our Doctors
Louise LeBoeuf, DVM
Veterinarian / Owner
Dr. Louise LeBoeuf is the Veterinarian and Owner of Yarmouth Veterinary Center, which she founded in 1986 as a house call practice alongside Peter Smith. What began as a small, personalized service has grown into a trusted veterinary hospital dedicated to compassionate, comprehensive care for cats and dogs.
Originally from Fort Kent, Maine, Dr. LeBoeuf grew up surrounded by animals, including cats, dogs, and even the occasional injured or orphaned wildlife. She completed a two-year pre-veterinary program before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University in 1979.
Dr. LeBoeuf is a member of the Maine Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. She finds the most satisfaction in veterinary medicine by acting as a “detective” — determining what is wrong, why it is happening, and how best to treat it — while also building meaningful relationships with the human members of her patients’ families.
At home, she shares her life with several beloved pets: Juba (a Potcake), Vivienne (a Golden Retriever), Baxter (a Standard Poodle), and two Domestic Shorthair cats, Julio and Ramona. Outside of work, she enjoys walking her dogs and spending time playing with her cats.
Dr. LeBoeuf is proud to continue serving the community she calls home, alongside her children, including Zach Smith, a veterinarian, and Georgia Comeau, a dentist.
Peter Smith, DVM
Veterinarian / Owner
Dr. Peter Smith is a Veterinarian and Owner who has been serving the community since 1986. With decades of experience in general practice, Dr. Smith is passionate about taking comprehensive veterinary care as far as possible—providing thoughtful, thorough medicine while building lasting relationships with the families he serves.
Dr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1980 before graduating from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. He is a member of the Maine Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Zachary Smith, VMD
Owner/Veterinarian
Dr. Zachary Smith is a Veterinarian and Co-Owner who has quite literally grown up in the practice. Yarmouth Veterinary Center was founded two years before he was born, and he has been part of the hospital family since the beginning. He officially joined the payroll in 2000 and returned as a practicing veterinarian in 2018.
Dr. Smith’s professional interests include exotics medicine, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, and dentistry. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Maine Veterinary Medical Association. What he finds most rewarding about veterinary medicine is being of assistance — to both pets and the people who care for them.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Emerson College in 2010 before graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. Originally from Yarmouth, Dr. Smith values the opportunity to serve the same community that shaped him.
At home, Dr. Smith shares life with his partner, Dr. Meredith Lancaster, their son Leo, two black Labrador Retrievers named Elle and Maverick (all dogs in the family are named after cars), and a spirited 6-pound cat named Rigatoni (all cats are named after pasta). Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family — which, as he jokes, is what he does both inside and outside the hospital.
