At Yarmouth Veterinary Center, we provide gentle, dignified end-of-life care for pets and compassionate support for their families. Our experienced team guides you through hospice options, quality-of-life assessments, and when the time comes, peaceful euthanasia services. We honor the special bond you share with your companion by creating a respectful environment and offering meaningful aftercare choices that help you navigate this emotional transition.
With Dignity and Respect
It’s never easy to say goodbye to a beloved pet. Yarmouth Veterinary Center wants to help make this difficult time as manageable as possible by providing compassionate end-of-life services for your pet.
If your pet needs hospice care, we’ll work with you to tailor a plan to keep them as comfortable and pain-free as possible. Our hospice services focus on managing pain, maintaining hydration and nutrition, addressing mobility issues, and enhancing overall comfort. We provide guidance on administering medications, recognizing signs of distress, and making environmental modifications to accommodate your pet’s changing needs. We know this can be a painful time for any pet owner, and we’re here to ensure you feel supported every step of the way.
When the time comes to say goodbye, our staff will ensure that you and your pet are treated with the kindness and dignity you deserve in a calm and caring environment. We create a peaceful, private space for this final farewell, allowing you to spend as much time as you need with your pet before and after the procedure. We are also ready to assist you with aftercare services such as cremation. If you wish, you may have your pet’s ashes returned to you.
When is it time?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive. It’s challenging to answer, as this is a deeply personal decision for you and your family. When evaluating your pet’s quality of life, please consider scheduling a consultation with one of our veterinarians. We can help provide honest and compassionate support during this time.
We understand that grief following the loss of a pet is profound and real. Our team can provide resources for pet loss support groups and counseling services to help you through this difficult time. Remember that everyone grieves differently, and there is no “right way” to experience this loss.
We know that pet euthanasia is never an easy decision, and we’re here to help you and your family in any way we can. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at 207-846-6515 if you have any questions.
How We Support You
There is no place quite like home — and when the time comes to say goodbye, that comfort matters deeply. At YVC, we are committed to offering at-home euthanasia because we believe your pet deserves to spend their final moments in the place they love most, surrounded by familiar sights, sounds, and the people who cherish them.
Our veterinary team brings the same gentle care and respect to your home that you would expect in our clinic, with one goal: to make this moment as peaceful as possible for your whole family.
Please note that at-home services are currently available for dogs and cats. If you’d like to arrange a house call, reach out to our office — we’re here to help guide you through every step.
Saying goodbye is never easy, and at YVC, we want to make sure that when the time comes, your pet is surrounded by comfort, dignity, and care. Our in-hospital euthanasia services are designed with both you and your pet in mind, offering a calm and private space for this deeply personal moment.
For dogs and cats, we welcome owners to be present throughout the process, giving you the time and space to say goodbye in a quiet, supportive setting.
For exotic pets, we are fully equipped to provide a gentle, stress-free experience using specialized equipment. Because of safety and procedural requirements, these services take place in our treatment area where owners are unable to be present — though please know your pet is in caring, capable hands every step of the way.
No matter the circumstances, our team is here to honor your pet’s life with the compassion and respect they deserve.
Honoring your pet’s memory is an important part of the grieving process, and we’re here to help you find the right farewell for your family.
Cremation: We offer both private and communal cremation services through a cremation partner we have trusted for decades. With private cremation, your pet is cremated individually and their ashes are returned to you. With communal cremation, your pet is cremated alongside other pets, and ashes are not returned. Each cremation — private or communal — includes a memorial clay paw print, and private cremations come with a cedar urn.
Home Burial: Some families choose to bury their pet at home. If you need time to prepare, we are happy to hold your pet’s remains at YVC until you’re ready.
Additional Memorials: We also offer a variety of ways to keep your pet close, including additional urn options, ink paw and nose prints, custom charms, and outdoor river rock memorials. Please speak with a team member to learn more.
