Pet Boarding FAQs

Pet Boarding FAQs answered by our Yarmouth Veterinarian

At Yarmouth Veterinary Center, we provide full-service boarding for dogs, cats, and small animals so that you can travel or vacation without worrying. Traveling without your pet can be stressful, especially if you are unsure about the level of care they will be getting while you’re away.  Here are some of the most common questions we receive about our pet boarding services.

Pet Boarding

What are the benefits of pet boarding?

When you board with us, the primary benefit is peace of mind. You can travel confidently knowing your dog, cat, or small animal will be safe, comfortable and happy. During your pet’s stay with us, you can schedule routine vaccinations or other medical procedures with a veterinarian. A vet will also be here if your pet encounters any medical issues during boarding.

Will my dog or cat have a chance to meet and play with other animals?

No. In order to maintain a safe environment for all of our animals, we keep them separate. Your dog will have opportunities to get outside for exercise and fresh air, and your cat will be given one-on-one time with the animal lovers on our staff.

Can my dog or cat learn more socialization skills?

When your cat or dog is young, boarding will help them socialize and accept new people and environments. As they mature, they will use their past experiences to process new situations and help them feel more comfortable. While older dogs and cats may have a harder time adjusting to boarding with us, we strive to make their experiences here positive.

Is it possible that my dog or cat will ease out of separation anxiety if boarded?

It’s not likely. A dog or cat who experiences separation anxiety at home may become more stressed when left at a boarding facility. Overcoming separation anxiety is a slow process, and we recommend working with an animal behavior specialist to help your pet overcome their fears before leaving them with us.

How can I make an appointment with Yarmouth Veterinary Center for my pet to be boarded?

Please give us a call to schedule your pet’s stay. We can usually accommodate most travel situations as they come up, but our boarding facility fills up during summer holidays and school vacations. We recommend booking your stay as early as possible to guarantee a spot.
