Yarmouth Veterinary Center is the first companion animal veterinary practice to offer comprehensive laser therapy.

Most of these veterinary practices offer only one type of laser. Our veterinarians at Yarmouth Veterinary Center also offer this standard type of laser, but we also offer two different, advanced types of laser therapy.

Yarmouth Laser Therapy

Laser therapy harnesses the power of light for use in medical treatments. Light from sunshine or interior lighting is composed of many wavelengths, which are normally very weak and wash over the body without causing much effect.

Laser therapy is quite different in its beam of light and is composed of a single, specific wavelength that is extremely intense. The light from lasers can penetrate body tissues and even enter body cells to create significant changes. Doctors use machines that fine-tune these laser wavelengths to achieve various effects.

Most therapeutic lasers use one of four specific wavelengths because these wavelengths produce predictable results. One wavelength may be good for reducing inflammation, for example, while another is good at stimulating tissue and cell regeneration. Most veterinary clinics use one or two of the available four wavelengths. In addition to using the best laser therapy that uses one or two wavelengths, our veterinarians use the only laser that uses all four wavelengths.

Lasers work by massaging the outer skeleton of body cells. This massaging action reduces inflammation and stimulates healing.

Our Yarmouth veterinarians offer three branches of laser therapy:

  • Anti-inflammatory Laser Therapy (ALT)
  • Regenerative Laser Therapy (RLT)
  • Laser Acupuncture (LA)

Anti-inflammatory Laser Therapy (ALT) is standard laser therapy that reduces inflammation in body cells and tissues damaged by illness or injury. ALT relieves pain and restores normal function. Our veterinarians administer ALT immediately after surgeries and dental procedures. Veterinarians may perform ALT by itself or in combination with other laser therapies.

There are three main types of anti-inflammatory laser therapy:

  • YVC Laser Therapy 1 - standard therapy using one or two wavelengths
  • YVC Laser Therapy 2 - advanced therapy using all four wavelengths
  • YVC Laser Therapy 3 – therapy that uses one unique wavelength

Our veterinarians use regenerative laser therapy (RLT) to stimulate cell regeneration, reactivation and repair to alleviate pain and restore function. RLT effectively treats chronic diseases, such as arthritis and diseases of kidney, liver, urinary bladder and neurological system.

Laser acupuncture (LA) is a revolutionary approach to therapy that combines ancient wisdom with new technology. Instead of inserting needles into the skin to stimulate healing, our veterinarians use light to stimulate acupuncture points. Laser acupuncture is highly effective, painless and, because it does not use needles that break the skin, it presents no risk for infection.
