Staging dental procedures is separating the dental treatment plan into more than one procedure.
Sometimes staging is planned before the first treatment is done. This might happen because it is medically appropriate to do so. It also might happen when a client wants to control the costs of dental care; we will do a dental cleaning/exam as the first procedure and other dental/oral procedures at a later time.
(This is a very reasonable way for you to control the costs of dental care for your pets. There are always risks with general anesthesia, but our anesthetic protocols keep these risks to the bare minimum. We believe the risks are not increased if one potentially long procedure is separated into multiple shorter procedures. If we clean your pet's teeth, evaluate it's mouth, and recover it from anesthesia, you can take some time to decide whether or not to pursue any additional recommended procedures.)
Sometimes staging is not planned, but instead becomes desirable or a necessity during a procedure. In these situations we will use the option for contact that the client has chosen at the time the patient was checked in.
Regardless of whether staging is planned or not, the only costs covered on an estimate are for the current procedure; future procedures are not included in the costs on the estimate.
