YVC LASER THERAPY
REGENERATIVE THERAPY IN GENERAL: HOW IT WORKS
Regenerative therapy is the process of regenerating and repairing cells, body tissues, and organs to relieve pain and restore or establish normal, healthy function. Regeneration of entire organs is currently only occurring in research labs, but regenerative therapy involving cells and body tissues is a practical medical therapy option at Yarmouth Veterinary Center now.
Regenerative therapy can be accomplished in a variety of ways. One way is by stimulation of adult stem cells - stem cells found in the adult organism. Adult stem cells are found in heart, muscle, liver, kidney, teeth, etc. - virtually every body tissue. When they are stimulated, they can renew themselves and differentiate into the specialized cells that make up the tissue or organ where they are located.
Another way is by re-activating cells that have been rendered inactive but not dead by the patient’s illness or injury.
A third way of performing regenerative therapy is to cause healthy cells in a damaged tissue or organ to physically or biochemically stimulate the cells around them. The regenerative effect spreads like a wave through the body region.
At YVC we provide Regenerative Laser Therapy (RLT); we use a unique medical therapy laser to produce these three effects.
One additional way of accomplishing regenerative therapy is surgical. Adult stem cells are removed from one location in the patient where they are found in high numbers (usually abdominal fat), processed to concentrate them into a small volume and activate them, and deliver them back to the patient in the form of an injection into the organ, tissue or region of interest. YVC also offers this form of regenerative therapy.
