Boarding Check-in
Boarding Check-in

Please review the check-in list prior to your pet boarding with us, and let us know of any questions or concerns.

Additional services  We can usually provide our routine services while your pet is boarding with us. Options range from nail trimming, annual check-ups, exams for particular problems, and even surgery and dentistry. Your pet will need to be here on a day when we usually provide the service, and you should let us know prior to drop-off so that we can schedule the additional services appropriately.

Requirements

Vaccines  Dogs must be up-to-date on kennel cough, rabies, and distemper-parvo vaccines. Cats must be current on distemper-upper respiratory and rabies vaccines. If your pet is due for a booster of any of these vaccines we can update it prior to or at the time of admission.

Health  Pets must be free of evidence of infectious disease. If they have fleas, ticks or intestinal parasites they will be treated at the client’s expense.

Other Important Considerations

Leash walking  At YVC dogs are boarded in comfortable indoor runs and pens and walked outside on a leash. In order to safely board with us your dog must be well-socialized and comfortable with anyone walking him on a leash. If you are not completely confident that your dog will easily accept leash-walking then we recommend that you seek a boarding facility with indoor/outdoor runs.

Diet  We feed our boarded pets Science and Prescription Diets. If this is not your pet’s normal diet please feel free to bring his food with you. (Note: For safety reasons we will not feed raw diets to boarded pets.)

Toys and bedding  Please bring any toys or bedding you would like your pet to have. (If you do not bring bedding we will provide it.) But a note of caution: it is our experience that some pets will treat their possessions badly while boarding, so we recommend that you do not bring something that cannot be easily replaced.

Boarding multiple pets in one pen or run  It is also our experience that sometimes pets that have been lifelong best friends will become quite agitated with each other when they are confined to the same pen or run. We seriously discourage you from having us board your pets together unless they have a prior history of having done so without a problem.

24 hour care  Our doctors are available for problems that arise with boarded pets, but we are not staffed around-the-clock. If your pet is very ill and requires close monitoring or special nursing care then your safest option is to hospitalize him at one of the 24-hour hospitals in our area; we can provide a referral.

Consent  We will ask you or your representative to sign the following consent agreement at the time of admission:

General  I understand that there are risks associated with boarding, including but not  limited to : contagious diseases, stress-related illness or injury, and injury or loss due to escape attempts. I relieve YVC of all liability in the absence of gross negligence.

Payment  I have recieved or waived an estimate for boarding and related procedures and I understand that payment in full is expected prior to or at the time that my pet is discharged to me. I accept full financial responsibility for any treatment needs that arise during my pet’s stay, with the understanding that an estimate cannot be provided for emergenicies or urgent care.

Emergencies  I authorize emergency treatment of my pet and I accept full financial responsibility for this care. I have specified to the YVC staff admitting my pet any particular details of this care, such as a do-not-resuscitate order.

Staffing  YVC is open to the public 7:30 to 6:00 pm Monday to Friday and 8 to noon Saturday. Boarding discharge on Sunday is at 4 pm only. Staffing of the hospital occurs from 7 am  to 6:30 pm daily; there is no staff member routinely present at any other time. Care and treatment of boarded pets occurs on an as-needed basis to be determined by the doctors and staff.
